Shinryaku! Ika Musume Ep. 1 Impressions

So one of the new animes this fall happens to be this:

Fairly amusing setting; a clueless squid girl comes out of from the sea to invade and take over humanity.

Too bad it doesn't work out for her.

So far, as I progressed through the first episode, the episode is essentially split up into parts; the first few minutes focuses on one story, then it as it ends, a new story is introduced. Each story is fairly short, but they're all quite entertaining.

So about the squid girl; basically, she hates how humanity treats the sea as if they own it, so she came on shore to punish humanity. She can't really do much, except spit out ink and move her hair-tentacles at will.

Granted, her hair tentacles are quite powerful, as they were even able to destroy a wall.

The humor is nothing unique, it's been done before. However, the show still manages to be amusing to an extent. Most of the humor lies in the squid girl's innocent carelessness(if you're wondering why I haven't been referring to her name, it's because it hasn't been mentioned yet. Everyone just calls her Squid Girl, or "Ika Musume"). She's unfamiliar with the real world, and because of this, the dialogue between her and the other characters turn out to be quite entertaining.

The animation is very well done. No real inconsistencies evident that I could see while going through the episode. Everything was animated smoothly and fluidly. The facial expressions are abundant, and are very, very, very entertaining to look at.

So far, the first episode has impressed me. This is a definite keeper for now. Keep posted next week for impressions on the second episode.
