Moving to a New Site again~

Bought a server. Moving the domain over. If you happen to see the new site sometime whenever it finishes moving, you might notice that it looks really damn plain. Well. This is just temporary. Yes, I'll spiff it up.

But yeah. Now I can do a lot more things with this, like add our own online reader, etc.

Anyways, to access the new site, input evetaku.com as always~

Putting it into Practice

I wrote most of this at about 4 AM so I may be a bit incoherent. I did revise it a bit just now but no guarantees. Also, everything expressed in these posts is my personal opinion, etc. etc. only listen to me if you feel I'm worth listening to.

More walls of text, more eyecandy to tide you over. Picture unrelated again. Source: http://www.pixiv.net/member.php?id=84705

After I posted my last essay, I had three more essays on general topics planned in my head, and this was supposed to be the last one. However, I ended up completely flipping the order from what I had planned because I realized too much of my later argument rested on this.

I’ve ranted on in the last two essays about some theoretical stuff and also given some examples, but I haven’t really touched on how to apply these ideas to the practical process of translation. What sort of things should you keep in mind while writing each line? What sort of criteria should you use in order to decide on your conventions?

What Not to Translate?

Even bigger wall of text this time. Source: http://www.pixiv.net/member.php?id=464124

It seems like a simple question. I’ve heard people mockingly say, “You’re writing English, not wapanese, it’s that easy.” Now, I’m an analytical person, and I’ll be the first to admit I tend to over-analyze and over-think things. But I have to wonder if it’s really that simple.

On Conventions

I mentioned before that I wanted to write one of these posts about translation, and some people (i.e. two) expressed interest. So here goes:
Walls of text ahead, so I figured I'd give y'all something nice to look at first. Picture unrelated.

Today I’d like to talk about conventions. No, not the kind that you spend sweating bullets in your heavy cosplay and eating nasty overpriced hot dogs at. I’m talking about translation conventions.

The way I use the word, a translational convention is a consistent choice that the translator makes that doesn’t affect the essential accuracy of a translation. This is a bit tricky because there is no fine line between what does and what does not affect accuracy. Rather, it’s very subjective, and depends on how you define “accuracy”. If a translation does not capture a character’s emotion, is it inaccurate? Does dropping honorifics affect the accuracy of a translation, or is it just a convention?

Random Comments on this Release (and Other Thoughts)

Source: http://www.pixiv.net/member.php?id=270727
So as you may have been able to tell, the past few times we've done anime the releases have been... a bit bumpy to say the least. Since I'm the only one on the team with a good amount of experience using Aegisub and none of us have prior fansubbing experience, we're still largely playing this by ear.

Figured I'd explain some of the imperfections in case anyone was curious. Hopefully we'll be able to correct all of these for next weeks release and not have to go through a dozen revisions and re-releases.

A-Channel Episode 1 Release!

Whoo. We're subbing again even though I said we won't~

I know, right?

Nichijou Episode 1 Impressions

Man, been a while since I've done this. Well, with the beginning of the Spring Season, I started watching a few shows, namely Dog Days, Hanasaku Iroha and Nichijou. What really stood out to me is Nichijou by far. I'm pretty sure most of you have heard of it.

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu OVA 2 Release

Took us a while (shorter than OVA 1) but nonetheless, here it is.
Hideyoshi Kinoshita: Making me question my sexuality since Episode 1

Hoshizora no Memoria Cirno Patch out (and updated review)!

Anyway, I'm happy to announce the release of this partial patch, the aptly-named Cirno Patch. This patch translates the first ⑨⑨⑨⑨ lines of the game, which covers the first half of the common route, and approximately 20% of the game overall. This joint-product of Staircase Subs and EveTaku spanned three full months of QC'ing and about three months more of translation. We hope you enjoy this release.

The patch can be found on Staircase Subs' blog, or here. Credit obviously goes to them for the translation and hacking, and to myself and the rest of EveTaku's staff for editing. Special thanks also goes to the people that frequent a certain other blog's IRC, for lending a helping hand in my poor attempt at TLC'ing as well.

Update on BakaTest OVA 02

Just figured I'd let y'all know before I collapse on my bed for the night.

Rough draft 1 of the script is done. Only dialogue, no signs yet. I'll go through again tomorrow to clean it up, fix up the lines I had trouble with, and add the signs. However I've got two tests tomorrow so expect any further updates late tomorrow night (Eastern time) at the earliest.

In the meantime have some imouto-moe Hazuki. Desu~

iDOLM@STER Break! Chapter 6 & 7 Released!

This is to make up for the lost time, so we went ahead and did a double release (thanks again, lyger, for working on this!)

March 13, 2011

Update!

What's going on right now is that our translator's on break. As for me, I'm just anxious on my university acceptances. So I'm sorry that there hasn't been any releases so far, but Baka to Test really wore all of us out. We're really not that suited to fansubbing, but we'll still do OVA2 whenever it comes. And no, we're not going to sub anything for a LONG while.

Anyways, as for manga, iDOLM@STER might be out this week. If not, early on next week. Sorry about that. There's also one more thing that should be coming up this week. It's manga related, so look forward to it.

Happy birthday, Kanon Nakagawa!

As the title says, today, March 3rd, is Kanon's (from TWGOK) birthday. It also happens to be the day that her image song album, Birth, is released.

I Just Realized

So on a whim today I decided to pick up Busou Renkin.

Except now I found out that it's complete, and only 4 volumes are scanlated. All of my rage. And I just found out it was already licensed by Viz. Derp.

Anyways, we're considering Kongou Banchou and B Gata as our next projects.. We can actually get to these two now, if we actually had more team members...*cough*.

Just Thought I'd Share This...

Careful not to die from all your HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGH's now.

Alright Guys, Here's What's Up...

So, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is coming out tomorrow.

I'm a huge fighting game fanatic, and considering I reside in SoCal. I don't think I've ever been this hyped for a game, ever, in my life. So, anyone with PSN out there who wants to play, comment it up.

I'll most likely get iDOLM@STER out later today before Marvel vs. Capcom 3, else I'll just put it off indefinitely. Hooray for updates.

Good luck to any of you on Single Awareness Day!

Err, I mean, Valentines Day!

February 03, 2011

Quick Update

We're working on iDOLM@STER Chapter 4 right now. Shouldn't be long now.

Takkoku soon as well. Now that we're no longer subbing (for now at least), we can focus on manga scanlation again.

Houkago no Pleiades Episode 2 English Subbed!

Second episode out. God the animation is awesome.

Houkago no Pleiades Episode 1 English Subbed!

A little fansubbing job our translator did during his spare time. Both lyger and I checked over the script, and now the first episode is all ready, english subbed and all.

We've Moved to a New Site! (UPDATE)

Yep. Check us out at evetaku.com!

So what this means for this current blogspot site is that...well, it'll only be a blog site now. We'll be getting rid of all the pages except the blog page. We'll still do blog posts and release posts, so no worries. Hopefully we'll get a download listing down on the main site next week for ease of access.

Anyways, check the new site out! Also, we're still looking for help in either IRC or translations. Just drop a line at our IRC channel or evetaku@gmail.com. Please~

UPDATE: It has come to my attention that there are some issues with the current site. We were told that it should take 24 hours for the site to be up, yet it was up in a few hours. However, a few people (including me) have been having issues connecting to the site. If this persists, just wait. We'll try to figure this out.
Shit's fixed.

Takkoku!!! Chapter 20 Released!

It's about time, huh?

January 29, 2011

"The ⑨ Project" Is Now Underway (In Partnership with Staircase Subs (again))

What the hell is this, you ask? Well, there's a reason why we're not releasing the name.

Anyways, all I can say for now is to look forward to it. You can check updates every ⑨ days by following this link. I'll put this in the "Links" section on the right hand side as well.

That's it for now. Oh, and Takkoku!!! 20 should be up fairly soon. Today at best, tomorrow for sure. Like, 120% sure. So no worries.

January 26, 2011

Alright, so updates...

So, where the hell is your weekly fix of Takkoku and iDOLM@STER, you ask?

Well, most likely it won't be coming until this weekend. Our translator's quite busy with his own work, so naturally our work slows down. We'll try our best to go for a double release on the weekend, to make up for this delay.

Again, we're really looking for translators to help us out. If you want faster releases, we gotta expand our team first.

January 24, 2011

We're Looking for Help!

Right now, we're looking for someone who's familiar with mIRC, and who can help us out with a few things. I, myself, know next to nothing about IRC, so any sort of help would be appreciated. I've seen some people come in and out randomly, and I'm guessing that's because we don't have any bots or servers to download from. If anyone would like to help, that'd be appreciated.

The IRC channel can be found at the link on the right side of the page.

Another thing, we're also looking for translators and typesetters, so drop a line at evetaku@gmail.com or at the IRC to let us know.

iDOLM@STER Break! Chapter 3 Release!

Holeymeister here, bringing you the latest chapter of iDOLM@STER Break!

January 19, 2011

Delays and Delays...

Finals caught up to me. It'll last until tomorrow, so no worries. I'll typeset everything when I'm free.

Some good news though: if you read Eab's post, the HoshiMemo progress is doing well. And another thing; Nyte has healed from his ankle injuries, so he'll get to editing the podcast soon. That and we worked a bit more on the new site. So yeah, hang on, your manga's coming.

January 17, 2011

So I'm due for an update.

Been busy after picking up Record of Agarest War and Deathsmiles for the 360, and trying to balance those with QC'ing Hoshimemo and other things. Since I'm back in college, I don't have access to my 360 anymore, which means I can put more focus into Hoshimemo, anime, VNs, and MMOs... At least, when I'm not fucking swamped with shitty comp sci homework, on the first fucking day of class. But I digress.

So, since Holey has finals this week, there won't be any releases until Friday. Thought I should give you a heads-up for that. What else is going on? Well...

So I Bought F-Zero GX Today

Official Partnership with Staircase Fansubs!!

EveTaku and Staircase Fansubs are now officially working together to bring you a translation of Hoshizora no Memoria -Wish Upon a Shooting Star-.

So far, three staff members from EveTaku are helping out with QC'ing (proofreading) the translated scripts, so we can bring the best quality translation to you. This joint partnership will aid in speeding up the overall progress, so that we can bring this out to you guys faster.

Our blogger, Eab, will keep you guys up to date on the latest progress on the HoshiMemo translation, so check back often to for news.

For the prologue patch download, link is here.

Thanks to Insemination for translating this visual novel. Many thanks, really.

Just Some Plans for this Upcoming Year...

So basically, this is a general outline of our plans for this month:

*Pick up iDOLM@STER Break! (in progress)

*Pick up whatever manga you guys want to see scanlated (numbers will be limited.) Feel free to drop a comment requesting for something, or just email evetaku@gmail.com.

*Pick up fansubbing during summer (since no one will be busy during then).

*Complete work on custom domain and new site

*Add XDCC download and bots to our currently empty IRC

*More podcasts

So that's about it. Takkoku!!! 19 should be up pretty soon. And so will iDOLM@STER Break!

And with that, good night.

New Site Overhaul!

Yep. We changed our site. Looks nicer now, doesn't it? Less pink, more blue!

So, we added separate pages on this new site, which allows for easier access. Many many thanks to our Raw Provider and Uploader for our new design. <3 you Nyte.

We're about to buy a custom domain, so we'll have more freedom in designing the site. This isn't the final revision!

First EveTaku Podcast!

Excuse my crappy $3 microphone. I'll get a better one next time.
